The Dangote Group announced on 27 November 2025 a series of major international technical agreements to support the expansion of its fertiliser operations in Nigeria and the development of a new fertiliser complex in Ethiopia. The new agreements include:
Topsoe will provide ammonia technology licensing and full process design packages for six ammonia plants, four in Nigeria and two in Ethiopia. The Danish company is recognised for its advanced, low-emission ammonia technology widely deployed in leading fertiliser facilities worldwide.
Saipem, the Italian engineering multinational, will supply technology licensing and design packages for the urea melt units across all six plants, bringing decades of fertiliser and petrochemical engineering expertise to the projects.
Germany’s Thyssenkrupp UFT, will deliver the granulation technology for all six facilities.
Engineers India Limited (EIL), appointed as project management consultant for the four new fertiliser trains at Lekki, responsible for engineering, procurement and construction management.
The announced agreements support Dangote’s fertiliser projects in both countries. In Nigeria, the company currently operates two fertiliser trains at its Lekki complex, commissioned in 2021 with Thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology (UFT) granulation systems and producing 3 million tonnes per year. On 10 November 2025, Thyssenkrupp UFT entered a strategic agreement to license its UFT® Fluid Bed Granulation Technology for four additional urea granulation trains at the same site. The existing trains operate at 3,850 mtpd each, while the new units will operate at 4,235 mtpd per train, supporting Dangote’s plan to raise total capacity to more than 8 million tonnes per year.
In Ethiopia, the agreements follow the formal launch of the US$2.5 billion Gode fertiliser complex on 5 October 2025, which will include two fertiliser trains with a combined capacity of 3 million tonnes to be completed over the next three years.
This far, with operating plants and announced projects, Dangote’ [paving the road to being the giant urea producer in Africa and the world with the following:
